Dahon Curve D3 Zhnged

posted 18 years ago | updated 17 years ago

Dahon Curve D3Update 1: I moved the EL135 to my Vitesse D7 and I am now using a bright S-Sun light in the front, and an Infiniti blinkie. The LD-600 is still mounted behind, but clipped to a Rav X wedge pouch (that has its own rain cover, neat!) -----I now own a white Dahon Curve D3 folding bike. Comes with 3-speeds via a Sturmey-Archer 3 hub, 16-inch Schwalbe Big Apple tires, integrated BioLogic™ Zorin PostPump seatpost pump and folds to a 34 x 60 x 65 cm size. Weight is about 11.4 kg (25.1 lbs).I have added a Cat Eye HL-EL135 light for the handlebar, and a Cat Eye TL-LD 600 rear red blinker to the seatpost. The upper part of my Zhnged Curve is pretty much all new parts. My foldie now sports a Pazzaz carbon seat post, Rido Glow-in-the-dark saddle, Radius VRO handle post, Syntace VRO clamps, AL carbon handle bar, and Ergon R2M magnesium grips.Just changed my brake pads to Kool-Stop Thinline All Weather Brake Pads. Stopping power now even better but the pads are quite costly. (Link to photo of Dahon Curve) ----- Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc 2006Update 5: My grips are comfy SQ Lab 704s, and I added an Air Zounds airhorn for the crazy roads I travel on daily. My bottle cage is a Topeak Mono that weighs 45g. My front light is now a double-barreled Cannon Akslen triple-LED HL-40 light (with AL-40 barrel upgrade). Changed my mirror to a Zefal because the Cat Eye popped out and ended on the road. The Zefal is nice because it can be retracted when not in use. On my Giro E2 helmet, I have mounted red and white Sigma Micro W/R blinkies. My seat post is now a Planet X Probe, which is not a costly carbon kind but at 220g, is still lighter than my almost 400g stock seat post, so I thought it was value for money.Update 4: Changed the stock Witch Ditch wheels (with the almost new Schwalbe Marathon Cross 1.75 touring tires I put on it) to Mavic 719 rims, with Shimano M475 hubs and Alpine Triple-butted spokes and Panaracer T-serv Messenger 26x1.25 slicks.Update 3: Majorly overhauled the Hardrock. Deore Rear D, Front D and Shifters. XT Hollowtech II Crankset (48-36-26) and BB, XT Chain, and XT 9-speed Cassette. Also took out the heavy stock shocks and replaced it with OEM alloy rigid fork. So much lighter now, and the shifting is clean and robust. Update 2: Changed the brakes to Tektro Aquila mechanical disc brakes. The old Hayes pads were squeaking with oil and I could not find the pads easily at the stores. Update 1: Added Cat Eye BC-500G mirror for right handlebar, and changed my seat to a Lookin Xsenium HG saddle that has 3D Royal Gel (sounds like food).-----Currently using a used Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc 2006 mountain bike, and my brother now has my Kona Lana'i bike. The Hardrock has a nice strong frame, a Marzocchi MZ-3 fork, Hayes HMX-2 XC mechanical disc brakes, and Sram components. It is a little scruffed, but in very good condition. It is in a limited edition Army green color. (Link to photo of mutant Hardrock)   (Link to photo of Hardrock original) Aside from moving over some of my old stuff (lights, rear fender, iPod speakers, Ah Beng tire valve LED lights) I changed the tires from the knobbies to 26x1.75 Schwalbe Marathon Cross tires that have a reflective sidewall.I also swopped out the pedals for Shimano XT M770 SPDs, because I find it odd to ride without SPDs now. Under the seat, I added a Topeak Aero Wedge Clip-on saddle bag. Also added a wireless Cat Eye Strada CC-RD300W cyclometer and left the wired Velo 5 one for my brother to use.----- Former Red Kona Lana'i 2007Photo of Kona:  (Link to photo of Kona Lana'i) Update 3: Got a new bike, a Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc 2006Update 2: Added Hermans Safety Wing, an orange plastic lolly-pop shaped safety flag thingy, bought in a Paris bike shop. Folds away when not in use, can fold out to encourage cars to give you a wider berth when they overtake. Front-facing part has white reflector and rear-facing part has red reflector. And picked up a luminous-yellow pants loops with velcro to keep long pants away from the chain and for visiblility. Also bought a pair of red RavX Nova X gloves with gel. Update 1: Added Shimano M520 dual-sided SPD pedals and got myself a Charcoal pair of M038 shoes. Takes some getting used to but damn, it is just so much more efficient. My red 2007 Kona Lana'i is parked just behind where I sit, at the office. It is pretty much stock because I did not want to waste money changing too many parts that are new. Most of my Zhngs are accessories. It is used for my daily commute to the office, takes about 30 minutes each way. I am a lighting addict. Because I ride home late at night very often, I added some bright lights. Be Seen, Not Sorry. It is kiasu and dorky but I'd rather be alive than cool. Front lights: I have a Cat Eye HL-EL135 in the front right fork and a brighter Cat Eye HL-EL320 (1000 candlepower) on the handlebar. I have a spare Smart brand white blinker on the handlebar as a backup too. Rear lights: I have a Cat Eye TL-LD1000 behind, mounted on the rack. It is huge and bright, not very sexy but you can see it in the daytime, with its 10 LEDs. Under my seat there is a spare Smart brand red LED blinker in case the big Cat Eye stops working halfway. On my right handlebar grip, I have a Cat Eye BC-500G mirror for safety. I also have an Amoeba JY-R1 rack connected to the seat post to carry my small backpack so I don't sweat so much. My helmet is a basic Prowell grey Giro E2 with a small red LED attached to the back and a small white LED attached to the front. I also have a Cat Eye Velo 8 cyclo-computer. I carry a RAVX Rapid X hand pump attached to where the bottle cage usually is, and my tire repair kit is stored in a Lotus top bar bag. The Chainstay Guard is a red Lizard Skins. I replaced my knobbies with Panaracer Tserv 26x1.25 slicks because I ride on the road and not on offroad. They are great!
