Shimano And The Athertons Come Together To Unveil New Gravity And All-Mountain Footwear And Pedals

Shimano unveils an all new lineup of Gravity and All-Mountain footwear and pedals at Fort William, developed in collaboration with the World Cup winning Atherton siblings, Dan, Gee, and Rachel.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of SHIMANO shoes for the attention to detail and their sizing options. I race with the AM9 but also train with other options. We’re always feeding back test info to the Shimano guys so I’m really excited to see how they’ve built that into the new AM901s.”

– Rachel Atherton

All shoes feature a moulded toe cap and are made with materials that promise better grip and protection in all weather conditions.

The flagship All-Mountain AM901, and it’s equivalent Gravity model, the GR900, don a protective lace shield to prevent the interference of debris. Both feature raised ankle collars for superior comfort; and the Speed Lacing system for quicker, and more secure adjustments.

Below the AM901 and the GR900 are the All-Mountain AM701; and Gravity equivalent GR700 and GR700Women. Both ditch the lace shield, and feature a mesh ankle collar instead, for improved heat ventilation. The GR700 is also available in dedicated sizes to suit female riders.

The AM901 and AM701, being SPD compatible shoes, are designed to work with the Shimano Saint-level pedal, the M820. Newly revised for 2018, it features a wide contact area, lower stack height and weight; with four adjustable pins per side provide grip when not clipped in. The M820’s double sided alloy pedal body is designed to match the AM901 shoe, providing a solid, reliable pedal-shoe interface.

For the Gravity models GR900, GR700, and GR700Women, Shimano offers a range of flat pedals, again starting with it’s flagship Saint-level M828 designed specifically to match the GR900, to offer superior grip and stability to deliver World Cup-winning performance. Below the M828, the Deore XT-level M8040 pedals are presented in two sizes for optimised comfort and efficiency. The entry-level GR500 builds on the strong reputation of its predecessor, the MX80, featuring height-adjustable pins, and low-maintenance sealed cartridge bearings to provide an easier point to Trail and All-Mountain riding, available in black or silver colour options.
