Frame

With 50 years of bike manufacturing experience under its belt, Oyama is certainly worth your buck. The Spark ADV 2.7, an upgrade from the Spark ADV 2.5 packs an Aerodynamic Alloy 6061 Frame in a dynamic gold on black finish, or cool red on black finish. It comes in 2 sizes – 46 and 48 cm – with the option of colors available while stocks last. Hailing below $900, the Spark ADV 2.7 is an affordable choice for those seeking a bike for nearby neighborhood rides and distant, mountainous cycling.

Componentry

Oyama’s “Pegasus Head” embossed on its taper head made of high-strength chrome molybdenum

Equipped with an Aerodynamic Alloy 6061 Frame designed in Italy (a small sticker carrying the Italian flag is pasted on the lower part of frame), it carries a Lightweight Alloy Fork attached to a TEKTRO Alloy Disc Brake for quicker braking on downhill sprints. The actual material used is high-strength chrome molybdenum, which ensures the bike stays rigid and precise through its steering. The head tube is painted a glossy black with Oyama’s “Pegasus Head”; cabling is routed internally for a classy countenance; and the welding of frame joints is a clean job complementing the Spark ADV 2.7’s dark gold-on-black allure.

For a bike under $900, you get a Shimano Sora 18 speed Derailleur System with Microshift Shifters. While the Sora is entry level on the Shimano scale, it certainly serves your needs for smooth gear shifting as you tack uphill and down dale.

Oyama has outfitted its brand on the 2.7: the saddle is Oyama’s Ergonomic Sports Saddle strapped to an Oyama Integrated Aluminum Alloy Seat Bar – it goes easy on your hips as you lean forward to take reins on the metal horse.

Alloy 700C / KENDA 700C*25C Wheelset

The Spark 2.7 uses an Alloy 700C / KENDA 700C*25C Wheelset, which commands the roads and tougher terrains with ease, but may be on the weightier side. Its TEKTRO Alloy Disc Brakes also provide better braking force downhill than regular rim brakes.

Ride Quality, Ride Feel

The Spark ADV 2.7 makes you exercise a little more uphill but the downhill ride is worth it.

Weighing 11kg, the Spark ADV 2.7 is no doubt cost-effective for your money. The bike goes relatively smoothly on long roads; it’s slightly bulky on the uphill climb due to its weightier tyres. However, that bulky weight evened out once I’d reached sufficient acceleration. Were there a phrase for it, I’d say I plunged on like an “eagle on the go”.

If you’re starting out in road biking and are rather lean on your budget, this bike is one good beast you can consider.

The Oyama Spark ADV 2.7 retails at $839 @
