The ‘Rock and Roll King’, Joshua Ngo is a 66-year-old Singaporean native based in Shanghai. Life hasn’t been easy for Joshua. He fell victim to Polio at the age of 3, resulting in a shorter and weaker left leg.
“Doing sports is not my cup of tea. I have only one good leg, the left leg only has 30% strength and the right leg 70%. This is how I gained my nickname ‘Rock & Roll King’ because right leg rocks while the left leg rolls!”
At the age of 40, Joshua was hospitalized due to high blood pressure and high cholesterol. His blood pressure measured 225/125 and was at risk of stroke.
Joshua was miserable for eight years as he was constantly living in fear; afraid of another HBP attack.
He adjusted his diet, cutting out all his favourites such as cuttlefish, crabs and coconut products. To his dismay, his cholesterol level only went down by a measly 5%.
He decided to make a change by taking a more aggressive approach to restoring his health. At the age of 49, Joshua stepped into a gym for the first time in his life.
The gym was located 2 kilometres away from his house and by the time he reaches there, he was burnt out from the 2km walk. So Joshua bought a bike and as time passes, he fell in love with cycling.
Joshua would ride 400-500km per week. He would fall and hurt himself. To date, Joshua suffered from a total of 31 broken bones.
Amidst all these hardships, Joshua persisted and never gave up. He even completed the #TOGOSG55 challenge despite excruciating pain. One of his implants was hooked under another bone of his, causing maximum discomfort and limited arm movements.
Days before his implants removal surgery, Joshua completed the #TOGOSG55 and #TOGORide2020 way beyond their minimum requirements. He was one of the top riders in the #TOGORide2020 with more than 7700km clocked with an elevation of 7,0152m, surpassing every rider in the challenge.
Joshua was also the oldest guy who completed the cycling challenge in France (Audax Randonneurs Paris-Brest-Paris). He finished a total distance of 1230kms with a total elevation of 12,000m in 88:32:26.
Due to his determination, Joshua has since lost 12kg and dropped two sizes. His blood pressure is normal and his good cholesterol has shot straight up from very low to better than optimal. He no longer lives in fear of HBP attacks and is now free to enjoy his guilty treats within limits.
Joshua is living proof that we can achieve anything if we put our hearts into it. “Nothing is more important or valuable than health. Grab hold of the opportunity to stay healthy whenever possible. No matter what!”

New Year in Sight, Fold Your Bike
It's a new year with promising new resolutions for some of us. I guess topping the New Years' Resolutions List should be something along the lines of losing weight, having a healthier lifestyle or going greener. And with the recent price ‘revisions' in fare and ‘reliability' of our public transportation in question, there is a way to improve you way of living. A simple one at that. Start riding.
It doesn't take a genius to know that cycling is good for you. It gives us the chance to spend some time outdoors in an age where we spend a good 16 hours in an air-conditioned environment on the average day. It gives us the chance to get our hearts pumping in an age where we spend a good 10 hours a day sitting at a desk and perhaps seven hours a day in bed. It gives us the chance to do our bit for the environment in an age where - I think you see where I'm going with this.
What I'm trying to say is - ride. Even better still; ride to work, ride to school. Have a purpose to get on a bike. You get engaged with the world around you and you get engaged with yourself. You feel the sense of reward of getting from Point A to Point B under your own strength. It's a unique travelling experience that you will only understand once you've tried it. It's as simple as that.

This Brompton-style foldie is no-frills and unpretentious. It is brings with it a fun factor and a very forgiving ride thanks to an extra cushy rear elastomer to soak up any bumps you might encounter along your commute. The London 7NX cleverly folds away into a neat package which we measured to be along the dimensions of 63cm by 69cm. This puts it clearly within the confines of the MRT's "Folding-Bicycles-Measurements-Box" lines. Folding it is a simple and relatively quick process which involves unclipping the rear triangle and loosening two knobs. After which, rollers on the standard-issue rear rack makes an easy task of rolling the bike around.
One thing that I thought was a neat idea is the internal cable-routing of the bike. The two cables that run to the back are routed through the bike's "top tube", again keeping the outline of the bike clean and simple. The only clearly exposed length of cabling are the three neatly-bundled lines from the handlebars that run down the Flamingo's neck. This also makes is fuss-free while folding.
