Thank you for your constructive inputs. We are aware that the current moderation effort in the Marketplace is far from perfect. With regards to your points, here are some of my inputs and hopefully, that can provide some perspectives of where the moderation team is coming from.
1. Commercial ads - Contrary to popular beliefs, we do not mark ALL BNIB ads as Commercial.
I am an avid cyclist myself and I understand the BBB virus pointed out by FT1611 very well. However, we are also aware that there is a group of users purchasing sale items from other avenues with the intention of making a profit by on-selling these items though the Marketplace. It is the later that the moderation team is trying to filter. In doing so, we need to call on the judgment of the moderators. In some cases, this could be a fine line. This explains why some BNIB ads are left alone while others are hidden.
If users felt that their ads are wrongly hidden, they can feedback to the moderators. But before doing so, please check your email account registered in Togoparts, this is because moderators are required to provide a reason when they hide an ad, and this is automatically send to the registered email account. Ad could be hidden due to contravening other T&Cs.
2. Replicas – Our stand on replicas is that these are not allowed in the Marketplace. Without going into the legal technicalities, selling replicas is as good as selling counterfeits. I think we all understand why this should not be promoted.
I do agree on your point that this might lead to misleading ads and some sellers trying to pass off replicas as authentic goods, but on the hand, allowing replicas does not prevent it either. Anyone intending to buy through the Marketplace, remember, caveat emptor!
As for OEMs, we have no issue with them being put on sale in the Marketplace for now. The difference between OEM and replica is define by the fact that the former do not try to confuse buyers into believing that the product is from some well-known brands. This means OEM items do not use like colour schemes, share the same brand name etc. Granted that the two might come from the same factory, and is of exact specifications, but it still does not change our current stand that we will only allow OEM products to be posted for now.
Then there are others, who might argue that the “replicas” that they are selling are actually authentic products, only that they are attained through a different distribution source, aka back door. Since we do not have the expertise to verify these claims, we can only apply our judgment to the best of our abilities.
In all, moderating the Marketplace takes a fair amount of judgment and sometimes these would be incorrectly applied, resulting in the far from perfect moderation effort. On the other hand, it does not help when a small group of members is constantly trying to "fool" the moderators, forcing us to be more assertive on our moderation effort.
