I was almost scammed too. Sorted it out in time. Anyway, thanks for your experience. I hope that there is karma and such people will get what they deserve.

I just got contacted by the same number. He wanted to buy my Bike. He seem genuine as the questions he asked seem to be from a real buyer.

[21:18, 12/1/2020] +61 488 892 818: Hello
[21:18, 12/1/2020] +61 488 892 818: Titanium bicycle, Rikulau Master 32Ti. LARGE (55cm)
[21:19, 12/1/2020] +61 488 892 818: still available?
[21:19, 12/1/2020] I R: Hello. Thanks
[21:20, 12/1/2020] I R: Yes, I just listed yesterday
[22:52, 12/1/2020] +61 488 892 818: oh okay
[22:52, 12/1/2020] +61 488 892 818: are you the direct owner or the reseller?
[22:52, 12/1/2020] I R: Reseller
[22:52, 12/1/2020] I R: I got frame set
[22:52, 12/1/2020] I R: And put pike together
[22:53, 12/1/2020] I R: Bike
[22:53, 12/1/2020] I R: All parts new
[23:09, 12/1/2020] I R: I have not used much
[23:42, 12/1/2020] +61 488 892 818: how long have you been using it?
[23:42, 12/1/2020] I R: I have 2 bikes
[23:42, 12/1/2020] +61 488 892 818: i mean, how long have you own the bike
[23:42, 12/1/2020] I R: This one I use little

Then he hit me with the paypal request

[16:13, 12/2/2020] +61 488 892 818: okay, so how do we deal? I’m actually buying it for a friend who is currently in the Philippines as he requested...i'm willing to arrange the shipping of the bike. can accept your offer if we can arrange the shipping. I know some cargo company that can pick it up from your location after payment has been completed.
[16:14, 12/2/2020] I R: You want me to pack up the bike?
[16:15, 12/2/2020] I R: We can discuss how this can be done
[16:16, 12/2/2020] I R: I would need to take to a bike shop for them to pack
[16:16, 12/2/2020] I R: It might be a little extra. Probably $50 but I need to check
[16:18, 12/2/2020] I R: You are not in Singapore?
[18:29, 12/2/2020] I R: Hello
[18:37, 12/2/2020] I R: So how would you like to do this?
[11:35, 12/3/2020] +61 488 892 818: no i would be better to let the agent take care of it
[11:35, 12/3/2020] +61 488 892 818: that won't be necessary
[11:36, 12/3/2020] +61 488 892 818: i just left town on an assignment
[11:37, 12/3/2020] +61 488 892 818: i believe that settle your questions
[11:37, 12/3/2020] +61 488 892 818: about payment, do you have an account with paypal?
[11:43, 12/3/2020] I R: So they just collect bike from me?
[11:44, 12/3/2020] I R: Once you pay, you can arrange for collection.
[11:45, 12/3/2020] I R: Actually, I think I'd prefer a bank transfer
[11:45, 12/3/2020] I R: I can give you my DBS bank account.
[12:46, 12/3/2020] I R: How should I address you?
[12:56, 12/3/2020] +61 488 892 818: sure, i can also transfer directly to your bank account but it would be from my paypal acct which is also technically the same thing...
[12:56, 12/3/2020] +61 488 892 818: hence, i have an account with paypal which is already link to my bank account and i can initiate transfer of any kind with my paypal account, either to your paypal account or to your bank account. i will check the info needed and revert.

It sounded fishy so I google the number and that let me here.

Thank you for posting this and I am sorry you got scammed.

Best

So sorry to hear, that is a lot of money already.

Reminder to all the buyers to not do initial transfers/deposit via Paypal or Bank Transfers if you do not fully know the users you are in conversation with. These scammers will always try to reason out that they would need to receive the deposits first and usually refuses upfront payment during meetups or cash on deliveries.

We are also removing these people from the marketplace as much as we could track and spot. Encourage everyone to flag the accounts if you encounter them. Thank you!

Dear all, recently a near missed for me falling into a scammer. I would like to share this so as all the sellers or buyers will take precaution measures. Recently I got a buyer that WhatsApp me with the number +61 , said he is in Australia working and wanted to buy the bike for his Son in Phillipines.
He wanted to deal with the transaction via PayPal. Sound legit. After awhile I received a paypal email address: [email protected] The amount with additional $500 for the deal that the buyer transferred. However, the additional amount of $500 I need to pay for Transportation Fee. Which I have to go western union to remit it. LOL.. this is so obverse a scam.
The whole dealing from conversation with the buyer to the paypal transaction if one do not know the details and thought a Deal is closed... might fell into this trap. After I went through some other forum and also paypal forum ....many are being cheated and that has been years. Please beware.
