The best foldie with a budget of $2k is a foldie that cost about a$1k+ or so and the  rest of the money used to upgrade the foldie to your taste.

Seen my foldie with spinner Grind front MTB forks? LoL

I've been eyeing the Verge for a while - they certainly look good and sounds great performance-wise.

However they are more road-bike-like - if you plan to do even a little off-roading (or just around neighborhoods) you may try looking at the Birdy (from E-walker, which also carries Pacific bikes). Great bikes, versatile and fast with dual suspension. That would be my backup folding bike if I could afford another.

"The Birdy's dimensions are small enough to take into offices, on buses, and to pack for travelling. It is the second smallest of the quality folding bikes (behind the Brompton), and is similar in size to the Mezzo performance folder: Width: 35 to 39 cm (13.8 to 15.4 in) Height: 58 to 61 cm (22.8 to 24.0 in) Length: 76 to 79 cm (29.9 to 31.1 in)" - Wikipedia

It comes with 18" wheels but can later be fitted with 16" if desired.
