When I was looking for a power meter with the limited budget that I had, I considered quite a few options to get the most bang for my buck. Here's what you'll likely consider too:
One thing I needed was that it has to be fuss-free and easy to install and setup, without having to need special tools or electronic gadgets.
The other was that it had to HAVE a good warranty programme, with good local support.
The last, should I ever need it, was that it had to be able to be covered under the local bicycle insurance.
Where did this lead me to then?

5 painless installation steps:
1) Simply remove the existing left hand side crank and replace it with STAGES.
2) Fix on your pedal, then connect it to your phone via Bluetooth and STAGES' app.
3) Have the crank arm at the 6 o'clock position.
4) Do a zero reset that takes all of 5 seconds.
5) Pair it with your Garmin (or other brand) head unit using ANT+ or Bluetooth connection.
Thankfully, I haven't had the chance to test STAGES' warranty programme (and hopefully never will), but I've seen people come to Bikes n Bites and get their crank arm replaced one-to-one upon STAGES' approval.

Insurance wise, I specifically chose a crank-based system as the local bike insurance covers cranksets, but not pedals.
If that's as important to you as it is to me, then I'd suggest getting a crank-based power meter, too.
