First Red Cycling Paths in Ang Mo Kio Already Open

A couple of designated cycling paths in Ang Mo Kio were opened in June 11, the first two of their kind in Singapore

Both visiting and resident cyclists in Ang Mo Kio can now enjoy riding along a couple of designated cycling paths, which are marked red for better visibility.

The new cycling paths are part of the Land Transport Authority and the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s plans to turn Ang Mo Kio into the first ever walking and cycling town. The plan started out as early as December 2014.

Just the first step

Another, bigger project expected to be completed this July is a 4km loop cycling route that goes around Ang Mo Kio’s 1, 3, and 8.

Once the plan is completed, People in Ang Mo Kio will be able to use a 20km cycling network, which also features a 2.6km cycling and walking corridor connected to the MRT viaduct kicated between Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park and Yio Chu Kang MRT Station.

Other features included in the plan are pedestrian priority zones and adding safety features amd map boards to traffic junctions to make them safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

SINGAPORE: From Saturday (Jun 11), residents in Ang Mo Kio can make use of two completed stretches of designated cycling paths, the first in Singapore to be marked in red to make them more distinguishable.
