Rodalink @Jurong Kechil
Rodalink @Jurong Kechil is located along Jalan Jurong Kechil, near the junction of Jalan Jurong Kechil and Toh Tuck Road and a stone throw from Bukit Timah Market and Hawker Centre.
It started as regular bicycle shop carrying bicycles and components for various cycling disciplines. After observing the demographics of their customers in the last few years and given their close proximity to Bukit Timah Mountain Biking Trails (BT), Rodalink has decide to transform this little setup into a mountain bike specialty store. The process of transformation is currently on-going. Once completed, you can expect to find mainly mountain bikes and related components in the store. And they do not carry just any mountain bikes, but only those mid to high end ones, with special focus on full suspension bikes. If you are thinking of taking up mountain biking as a serious hobby, this is one shop you should visit.
Even the team running the shop is specially chosen and all of them are true mountain bikers at heart. Eric and Rahim, the Store Supervisor and Mechanic respectively, are active participants in races, both locally and in Malaysia. During our short meet up, Eric came across as a good natured individual who is always eager to share his experience and knowledge. With such experienced riders in the shop, you can be assured that all your queries will be well taken care of.
Since Rodalink is the distributor of Polygon and Marin bicycles, you will naturally find these two in-house brands in the store. They carry a wide range of mountain bikes, ranging from superlight race worthy hardtails to heavily doped downhill machines. For the average enthusiasts, you will be contented with the many 4-5 inch travel duallies displayed in the shop. Since bicycles these days cost a bomb to purchase, Rodalink allows customers to test ride the bikes before making that vital decision.
If you already own a bike and are looking to get it upgraded, there are wide varieties of components available as well. You can find components from many big brands like Shimano, Marzocchi, KCNC, Syncros and Prologo, just to name a few. One interesting product we saw is the Power Balance bands. Granted, there are various similar products in the market and most people remained skeptical about their advertised functionality. But for the Power Balance bands, be sure chat up with Eric and ask him for a demonstration. It is pretty interesting.
Last but not least, mechanical and cleaning services are also available. If you are a fan of cross country mountain biking but totally hate clearing the mess, now you can make a small detour to Rodalink after your BT ride and leave your bike with them. Talk about carefree living!
In addition, to show their riders’ spirit, Eric and his team holds regular offroad ride every Sunday evening at 4pm. This ride is open to anyone who is interested, all are welcome to join. So if you are looking for cycling khakis around BT, check out this ride!
