Merida’s sponsorship of the Italian-based Lampre-Merida professional cycling team in 2013 has cast Taiwan’s second largest bicycle manufacturer in the spotlight. A major highlight at the Merida booth during the Taipei International Cycle Show were the fleet of pro bikes are currently used by the Lampre-Merida team.
Here are the 3 Team Issue bike models:
The Scultura SL Lampre-Merida
The Scultura SL is the workhorse bike for riders of Team Lampre-Merida and was rated the 3rd lightest frameset overall out of the top 10 road framesets in the February 2013 issue of the German cycling magazine, “RoadBIKE”. It runs on a BB386 system, although an adapter is required since the bike is running a full Shimano Dura-ace 9070 series Di2 electronic group set. The cockpit and seat post is a full FSA affair and the Fulcrum Racing Light carbon tubular wheel set rounds up the race-ready package.
The Warp TT Lampre-Merida
The ‘Formula 1’ bike of TT bikes, the Warp TT is Team Lampre-Merida’s weapon of choice for time-trial races. According to German’s “TOUR” cycling magazine’s wind-tunnel test in October 2012, the Warp TT was rated as one of the top 5 most aerodynamic TT bikes in the market. Not surprisingly, the Merida Warp TT also clinched a gold medal at the Taiwan Excellence Awards this year.
The Ride SL Lampre-Merida
Designed for the rough roads of classic races, the Ride SL features ultra-thin seat stays for added comfort on the cobbles and runs a more traditional (and more cushy) 27.2mm seat post. Keep a look out for it at this Sunday’s Paris-Roubaix race!
For those more into cross-country racing, Merida is also a long-time sponsor of the Multivan Merida Biking Team. The Big 99 Carbon full-suspension cross-country mountain bike in Multivan Merida team colours was also spotted at the booth:
Merida is distributed by Hup Leong.
