It’s the New Lunar Year and cyclists from all walks of life are sure to look forward to a new prosperous new year. Riders from all over Singapore came together on 5 February 2017 to celebrate the new year with a Lou Hei session, and they rode to Soek Seng 1954, a Bicycle themed cafe at MAJ Aviation Building, Seletar Aerospace View. Soek seng 1954 is a vintage themed bicycle cafe for all people to immerse in the world of vintage bikes.

10AM in the morning, riders started arriving and were chatting with one another while waiting for the others to arrive. With the good vibe and ambience, everyone settled down for a drink and some light refreshments. It was indeed a good turn out with all the cyclist coming in. Soon after, the lion dance troupe came in to prepare for the celebration.

Once all the cyclists and guest of honour arrived, the celebration kicked off with the traditional lion dance to start the Lunar New Year with a high note for the prosperous year of the rooster. During the lion dance, everyone got excited for the celebration. Taking photos with one another, the lions of the lion dance troupe and fellow rider friends for momento.

After the lion dance ended, it was time for the main part the event. The Lou Hei! This is what everyone have been waiting for to kick start the Lunar New Year on a good note for what is ahead. Everyone got their chopsticks ready for the que to start.

The que was given and everyone started to toss the “Yu Sheng” (Yusheng or Prosperity Toss, is a Cantonese-style raw fish salad. It usually consists of strips of raw fish, mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients) up in the air. As the saying goes, the higher one toss, the more prosperous the year will be! Hence everyone started to toss the food high up and shouting “HUAT AH” which means prosperity for what is coming ahead this year. This went on till the “Yu Sheng” became really well mixed and became ready to be consumed. Everyone took a plate and started digging in on the “Yu Sheng” and snapping photos away with their peers.

The event turnout was spectacular with the good vibe and ambience, it was an event to be remembered for everyone there.
