" Reliable, but initial stretch can be... "

Overall Rating

The Review
This is the cable that everyone will ask to get. I guess even though you're not riding a great bike, these shifter cables will breathe new life and confidence to your bike;s shifting.

The good point is that they are teflon coated, so no worries of it fraying and etc. Its slick shifting gives confidence to all types of riders.

However, they are relatively expensive for cables, and they stretch quite a fair bit on the first mount up. So for home mechanics it means stretch, tighten, shift, and repeat the following steps again.

However, the slick shifting and the reliability of these cables are really unbeatable.

Strengths
-dependable
-smooth shifting
-fit and worry free

Weaknesses
-stretch length before settlement is crazy; up to 5% of a uncut cable.
-a wee bit on the expensive side.

Duration of product used
2 years

Bike Setup
One white and one silver bike

" As good as Shimano chains... no that's not a compliment "

Overall Rating
Reviewed on: 2nd Dec 2005 from Singapore

The Review
Sorry to those of you who rate this cable highly, this is only average lor, my 'kaki' who uses XTR shifter cables replaces it once at least every 6 months because it snaps.

Strengths
-Does its job as a cable with normal stiffness and responsiveness, nothing spectacular
-A bit smoother than normal SIS brake cables where it feeds through the brake noodles la

Weaknesses
-Heavy, not much difference from cheap SIS cables
-Felt the same as my SIS cables, which isn't what "XTR" is supposed to stand for
-Costly

needs a unique cable cutter which you either have to buy, or go down to the shop to install
