Most carbon seatposts will provide you with the usual expectations...this is a bit more than that.....it provides you with a sub-100g weight. In fact,the box packaging is more heavier.
So for weight weenies, this is a must get product.
A point for your awareness though because as a weenie item, it has it's limitations.
Handicap is on a maximum weight restriction and the cosmetic finishing may not appeal to some perfectionists out there.
The surface of the post is not finished with a clearcoat. It's a direct resin finish so that there are slight imperfections here and there but not a generalised issue for all production. It is handmade and not machined so not surprising.
Lucky if you get a pristine conditioned post...if not, well your luck.
The Eastons, ITM's, Selcofs etc...have a better machined finished look in clearcoat matt or gloss.
The M2racers will have the seams obvious sometimes like mine. Not an issue though.....as I said, all cosmetics so I could not be bothered at all.
The wieght as claimed is at 89g. Mine came in at 87g as digitally scaled. So really, what more can I ask?
My seatpost is a 31.6mm x 250mm and the allowance for the insert is just for 75mm. So effective post height for a 250mm length would be 175mm. They come in various heights though.
The seatpost is a straight one without clamp angles. Shaft is made of carbon and the clamps by lightweight alloy. Similar to the more expensive Tune or Shmolke versions.
Now for the test-
The seatpost was set-up with my Scotts CR1 roadbike.
Rode it a total of 120 km so far, being a 20 +20 + 80 km in one week in an almost smooth conditioned roadways. Flats, inclines and declines. Max speed at 38-40km on flatlands.
Comfort level?....very good. Actually excellent in spite of combining it with another carbon item,the Tune Concorde Saddle.
The damping is there and the durability issue was not a question at all throughout the ride.
No difference from my other seat posts,particularly my previously heavier Controltech at 165g. But in this instance, the M2Racer were lighter by 87g and still performed just as good.
Can't say better, because the ridefeels were very close though a straigh version seems to be a bit to my feel preference.
Just remember that you must be careful on clamping pressure as I had mine done by my LBS using a torque adjuster because the walls of the seatpost are minimally thin so this is another issue to be aware of.
(Seatpost clamp here is also from M2Racer at 9g.)
For those whom want to lighten-up their set-ups,this is one way to go. You can save up to 100-120 grams or more depending on your present seatpost weight. Likewise, durability is not an issue but there are handicaps to be aware of.
As I have tested this seatpost with a roadbike, I am unsure of the test results from a MTbike. A seperate testride should be made for the other discipline as well.
The price too is another to consider because it is 200% more than the usual one's out in the market.
My decision to acquire the M2Racer is because of the weight considerations but without compromise to structural integrity. This seatpost satisfied my requirement.
It is also still cheaper too than other exotic brands.
Finally and most important of all is that it is locally available and that sealed the deal.
So no hassles about ordering from overseas. There is a lead time though sometimes....so order at least a month assuming that there are no ex-stocks.
Very happy and satisfied with this acquisition!
