Strengths:
Looks not bad, pretty fierce.
Provides more confidence than a normal "no face" helmet.
What Mountain Bike gives it a 9 for Performance and 8 for Value, their opinion should be as good and trusted as any other.
So, if you've anyone telling you that its a "lousy helmet", seek a second opinion.
I haven't used it for long yet, which explains my lack of info for this review, but will update with another review when the time comes!
Till something crops up to make me want to reduce its ratings, I'll give it what I can for now.
Meanwhile, here is what WMB has to say about the Para-Chute:
Met's Parachute is one of only a couple of convertible helmets available since Giro discontinued the Switchblade that started it all.
By fitting a standard helmet with four screw mounts for a chin guard, the idea is that you can have full face or normal protection as conditions demand.
As the base helmet is a modified Anaxagore, all the same fit and venting comments apply, but obviously it's a bit heavier.
The chinguard itself is relatively thin but it's carefully ribbed and moulded to maximise strength with cheek and jaw pads to stop the guard itself cutting you if you crash.
We've not slammed our face into the ground to see what happens, and we're not planning to either, but we have used it a lot for hardcore technical riding - particularly at night - when the bushes get violent.
It's not as protective as a proper full face, but it definetly offers more "slide down the trail head first" armouring than a normal lid.
The massive amount of venting means breathing isn't restricted either, leaving only the extra weight as a performance issue.
Helmet specs:
Vents - 24
Weight - 592g
Weaknesses:
If I want to be nitpicky, I'd say the left side strap isn't exactly adjustable.
The Crunch:
I really really wish I'd gotten it sooner!
