Topic: To togopart's adminstrator to be fair and square

Posted on: 12th Feb 2013 3:03 AM    Quote and Reply

SO many people are abusing the ads here.
I really hope togoparts to be fair and square to all.
To togoparts, why cant u set 1 free ad per member instead of 10?
Togoparts,u might as well set everything to be commercial use, rather than being unfair to others.

Hi Fattyrider

We can consider your proposal of 1 free ad per user or paid ads for all, if there are substantial number of members feeling the same.

We welcome members supporting the above to voice their thoughts.

My 2 cents:

Have found moderators to be fair but, probably due to staff shortage, can't check EVERY ad/post and take prompt action if rules are breached. This may therefore be misconstrued as double standards etc...

Replies to emails also very slow but probably due to staff shortage as well.

Some suggestions to moderators (hopefully others can chip-in):

1. Send a warning email first to the advertiser re "illegal" ad(s) and set a timeframe of say 24hrs to amend or remove the post after which action will be taken. Aren't we aiming for a more gracious society...

2. OEM/ replica ads. Personally it's my belief that these are everywhere and are here to stay. Are they illegal/ unlawful? Honestly, I do not know. What I would like to know is if a seller were selling an original frame/ part or an OEM/ replica one. Sellers should not be penalized by honestly stating what's for sale. Deleting or hiding such ads will only lead to parts advertised/sold without full information....

3.Does selling a brand new item mean that it's a commercial ad? Many cyclists buy spares that sometimes are the wrong part/ can't fit/ changed their mind about upgrading/ sold off bike so have brand new surplus parts etc Hopefully can allow an ad if it's only 1 piece new item for sale. Afterall, if it's business, seller would be selling multiple brand new items.

Cheers!

Happy CNY!

TS, care to explain how you have been treated unfairly?

How does reducing number of free ads to 1 help the situation?

You may not have a lot of things to sell, and that works for you, but not for other forumers.
I personally suffer occasionally from the BBB virus, thus ending up with multiple sets of the same item.
The free ads allow me to get rid of some unwanted stuff, and benefits some buyers who get them at good prices.

I for one am against reducing the number of free ads. Firstly because I need them, secondly because I don't see how it helps. Come up with a better solution if you can.

TS is banned so cannot explain....not only for rule breaking but alleged rude, obnoxious and threatening behaviour. so it looks like we are still good to go with 10 free ads - as long as not new stuffs of course....

Hi Roadterror

Thank you for your constructive inputs. We are aware that the current moderation effort in the Marketplace is far from perfect. With regards to your points, here are some of my inputs and hopefully, that can provide some perspectives of where the moderation team is coming from.

1. Commercial ads - Contrary to popular beliefs, we do not mark ALL BNIB ads as Commercial.

I am an avid cyclist myself and I understand the BBB virus pointed out by FT1611 very well. However, we are also aware that there is a group of users purchasing sale items from other avenues with the intention of making a profit by on-selling these items though the Marketplace. It is the later that the moderation team is trying to filter. In doing so, we need to call on the judgment of the moderators. In some cases, this could be a fine line. This explains why some BNIB ads are left alone while others are hidden.

If users felt that their ads are wrongly hidden, they can feedback to the moderators. But before doing so, please check your email account registered in Togoparts, this is because moderators are required to provide a reason when they hide an ad, and this is automatically send to the registered email account. Ad could be hidden due to contravening other T&Cs.

2. Replicas – Our stand on replicas is that these are not allowed in the Marketplace. Without going into the legal technicalities, selling replicas is as good as selling counterfeits. I think we all understand why this should not be promoted.

I do agree on your point that this might lead to misleading ads and some sellers trying to pass off replicas as authentic goods, but on the hand, allowing replicas does not prevent it either. Anyone intending to buy through the Marketplace, remember, caveat emptor!

As for OEMs, we have no issue with them being put on sale in the Marketplace for now. The difference between OEM and replica is define by the fact that the former do not try to confuse buyers into believing that the product is from some well-known brands. This means OEM items do not use like colour schemes, share the same brand name etc. Granted that the two might come from the same factory, and is of exact specifications, but it still does not change our current stand that we will only allow OEM products to be posted for now.

Then there are others, who might argue that the “replicas” that they are selling are actually authentic products, only that they are attained through a different distribution source, aka back door. Since we do not have the expertise to verify these claims, we can only apply our judgment to the best of our abilities.

In all, moderating the Marketplace takes a fair amount of judgment and sometimes these would be incorrectly applied, resulting in the far from perfect moderation effort. On the other hand, it does not help when a small group of members is constantly trying to "fool" the moderators, forcing us to be more assertive on our moderation effort.

I agree its not perfect but the Marketplace isn't bad - I've bought and sold and the Mods do a pretty good job of due dilligence keeping serial scammers and fakes off it.
As for replicas - if you buy a beef burger you expect and require it to contain beef rather than horse or pig even if it tastes the same. The law has a similar take on this
