Topic: Where to park my bike

Posted on: 10th Jul 2018 12:41 PM    Quote and Reply

I just bought a $1k bike, wondering if it's safe to park it in public places, especially those racks you see in MRT/bus interchange/HDB.
I usually cycle to the gym and park it at those racks, but that was only a $200 bike, didn't thought too much of security. With a $1k bike, i'm a little concerned.
I always lock the wheels and frame with a regular $10 chain lock, but at home i always park it inside the house.

Where do you guys park your expensive bikes?

i don't park my bikes outside of my house. When i ride, it is always in my sight. I don't bring a lock at all.

this is why i have 2 bikes :P One for grocery runs, going to nearby places in the hood, etc. No issue/fear locking up in public places. This bike is definitely the lower end/cheaper one and also serves to function as back up if my main bike is out of action, etc Higher end bike always beside me or at least in line of sight out in public but to be fair i cycle long disctance with it in some ulu places where there is almost no crowd haha

You can't do anything if someone wants to steal. Just keep an eye on it when you're at gym.

My pub bike to run errands is always parked below. Its a hybrid bike which I don't have to worry so much about something being stolen.

For my MTB and road bike I wouldnt leave them parked anywhere but in my sight. The components are just to expensive to take the risk. Leaving a expensive bike parked where the wheels alone are 3 times more expensive than my pub bike is asking for risk I am not willing to take.
