Topic: Wheelbuilding advice needed

Posted on: 28th Feb 2016 1:16 PM    Quote and Reply

I have a 20 inch wheel with originally a 28 hole hub installed.

Unfortunately the hub has developed rust and pitting, and needs to be replaced.

I can find replacement hubs but with 36 holes instead. The 36 hole hub is also a larger diameter.

Would it be possible to relace the wheel with the 36 hole hub? I imagine it would need shortening of the existing spokes and maybe purchasing some extra spokes.

Also any recommendations on any bike shop to buy spokes and relace the wheel would be much appreciated.

You will need a 36 hole rim, you can't just drill an extra 8 holes in a 28
wheelbuilder wise I used to use Adenan or TR bikes both closed down apparently other one is Wesley (look up piston cycles Pte ltd on Facebook) not used him myself but seen his wheels and they are v nice.
Any decent wheelbuilder will cut the correct length spokes himself

Rizwan, look up Wheel Concept or Wheel Angel on FB.

I think I may have posted something about them on LBHPVSG.

Thanks all for the replies.

I had not considered the rim holes. It seems therefore I would need to find either a 28 hole different hub or replace the entire wheel.

I will check with the wheel builder recommendations. Thanks!
