Any classified ad that says bank transfer only at too good to be true prices is a SCAM. Same with onlineshops in Indonesia / China that require deposits by credit card etc.

Only ever pay cash on marketplace, ST Classified ads etc or by Paypal for stuff like ebay, you at least have some protection

Smell something fishy about the ad. The seller says cash on delivery only for bikes above $500 when I ask to pay cash. Then claim there is 2 years warranty for the bike. When query who is providing the warranty,  seller just say the info will be provided on the receipt.

So far many of the untrustworthy types seem to love using "...@outlook.com". Not to say all of them cannot be trusted, but it's a good start when deciding if should bother to contact.

If you want to buy items that are new always go to reputable sites.

Now you can literally buy from around the world and compare prices without any end.

Why go to those who tempt you with bargains, who you have never come across and when you are not only wary of such offers but also can check their background easily with internet.

Hi,

Please refer to the Singapore Police Force advisory on scams.

http://www.police.gov.sg/advisories/scams.html

The common tactics include; bank transfers/deposits, additional bank transfers/deposits to cover additional "unknown" causes such as delay delivery, warranty, no official shop details.

There have been several such postings on Togoparts in the past but often members here have been quick to spot and report such scams.

As a rule of thumb, check the available price listing of the product on reputable shops and online shops.  Make comparisons to the prices, product quality.  If the price is too good to be true, it usually is.

Cheers
Dave
