Has anyone cycled from pengarang to desaru recently using the coastal route? would be great if you can give some insight abt the construction going on there

Not done it for a few months but last time there were quite a few trucks in the first couple of Km from the ferry to Sungai Rengit but taking the coast road round from Sungai Rengit to Desaru was same as ever. The construction is all to the North and west of Pengarang not the East.

My last ride there was in 2013 but I love that route

Anyone planning such a tour may find this map useful:

Drove down to Sg Rengit for lunch from Causeway via Jln Kota Tinggi - Pengarang and back up to Desaru via the Coast Road last weekend, many monster potholes have opened up due to the Monsoon so do ride safe.

Traffic wise it seems alright with short sections that are narrowed, I went on a Saturday and it's pretty clear.

Like the wind.

As recently been going over to there, the constructions are on going due to petroluem industries. heavy constuctions vehicons moving around the area. The some of the first few kampong areas are cleared and u see lots of cleared opened bare grounds and deforestation and hills leveled. pots holes at certain stretches getting more and bigger and surfaces getting rugged. ride with caution.

Hi folks,

Has anyone done this route recently? Is it overall a nice ride or has construction taken it over?  I’d be looking at doing one way per day.

Cheers!

I went last sept. Beginning has a new road going around the area. Nice smooth surface but no shades (in fact most of msia road). Almost no cars when I went on a Sat. Turning back down to Sungei Rengit then will see more vehicles and contruction. From there to Desaru can consider light traffic.

Thanks for the reply - I have been trying on google maps to route to Sungei Rengit along the south from Pengarang and it seems to think that there is no through route, for a car anyway.

Which road would you use to get to Sungei Rengit these days?

From google map you can see. Take route 90 up until you reach to the end where it meets route 92 which is the Pengerang -Kota Tinggi road. From there I guess you can decide where to go. Either up to Desaru but with heavier traffic, or down to Sg Rengit then continue the old route 90 where it's longer but lesser traffic.

That was encouraging to read. After 4 years I am returning to bike this area on 24 August 2019. I will try to post a summary of how it went... stay tuned.
