Topic: Advice on choosing a commuter bike

Dear community,
TL:DR, I am looking for a commuter bike that I foresee I will be cycling on the road 99% of the time. I have settled for the Giant Escape 1 2018 in my heart already but I would like to hear the community on whether I should choose Polygon Heist 5 over Giant Escape 1 (2018) considering the better specs but weight penalty. My budget is no more than 1k

I'd expand options and have a look at other brand/types of potential bikes if i were youFor $1k and if you are looking for road oriented flatbar road bikes i wouldn't consider the Heist tbh. Why not have a look at Merida Speeder 200, Trek Zektor 2 or full cromo Marin Muirwoods?

For commuter duty bikes that wouldn't feel dodgy even in wet conditions i would think disc brakes are a must and for a $1k budget thats definitely doable and probably with a nice carbon fork or at least cromoly steel in the mix? IMHO 32mm or thicker tires gives nice comfort for 700c wheels but some would say 28mm suffices haha

Thanks for your answer. Now that I am looking at other options, the other bikes also look very promising!
