BYX Grand Opening

Cycling fanatics will be excited to hear that another bicycle shop has opened in town!

Founded by bike enthusiasts who saw a gap in the local market, BYX was born after 9 months of intense planning.

Daniel Loo, one of BYX's senior staff, shared briefly with us on BYX's philosophy: "What sets our bicycle shop apart is our commitment to excel in customer service; BYX wants to establish a close relationship with our customers as we insists that a client who is willing to fork out thousands of dollars for a bike deserves exquisite service. This is the reason why we also offer a bike test program for potential clients to get a feel of the quality of the bikes that we offer before deciding on the purchase.” BYX also insists on proper size fitting for every customer and have a 6 months refitting policy to ensure that clients receives a perfect bike fit.

BYX offers a wide range of road, tri and mountain bikes. To appeal to the existing and growing group of female cyclists here in Singapore, BYX also stocks female specific Stevens' and Fuji road and mountain bikes. Other bike brands carried by BYX include Niner which has been a pioneer in promoting the 29er mountain bike and is now considered an outstanding design house for top 29er mountain bikes in the market. Niner bikes have a distinctive look and the brand's attention to design details really stands out. In fact, their attention to detail and innovative design has been recognized and the Air RDO bike garnered them a gold medal award at last year's Eurobike.

Stevens is a well-known bike boutique house in central Europe. It manufactures its full range bikes in the north of Germany. This is reflected in an uncompromised focus on engineering perfection, finishing and performance design. A showcase to its excellence is demonstrated in the Comet SL 5.0, complete road bike at 5kgs, making it one of the lightest production bikes in the world. BYX will soon stock the first shipment of 27.5/650B mountain bikes from Stevens. It would certainly be interesting to see more 650B mountain bikes in the local market.

Other brands which are more specific in their product offerings include Kestrel, an American brand renowned for their futuristic-looking triathlon and road bikes.

It's not very often we get to see a pro bike in a local shop

Aside from the products offered, cycling sports fans will be excited to learn that there is a Kestrel Time-Trial bike owned by 2009 Giro d'Italia winner, Russian professional road cyclist, Dennis Menchov who had led the Geox-TMC till 2011....."

So if you are in the River Valley Area, be sure to check out BYX!

Have your say

We spend much of our time in BYX talking with people entering the shop and sharing cycling experiences regardless of whether one buys. We do it because we enjoy it. We try to greet but also to give space, and sincerely apologize if any of you was not attended to. You are more than welcome to return and be our guests. BYX team

When I first walked in, I, too, was left alone. As with edng, I prefer that to a shadow.Subsequent times I've been there it's like I'm an old customer, never mind that I've never bought a bike from them. The ang moh customer must have been a repeat.Anyway, I've spoken to both ang moh owners. Very down-to-earth pair.  This place hasn't got the airs of expectation many of the local bike shops exhibit.Just last week I was there when I met a fellow Facebook cycling group member there.  She was treated like an old friend despite being her first time there.

I want to get THIS !!!

hmmm I was there about 2 weeks ago and the service was pretty ok .

They left me alone too to look around on my own which I prefer (hate getting followed by a sales person when I'm not sure if I was buying anything at all)

Talked bike fit with the Ang Moh boss for my next touring bike purchase and he made pretty good sense with no obligations to buy as I told him my intended purchase was a few months away as I was undecided between a Fuji Touring or a Jamis Aurora.

Anywayyyy.... the thread did not mention a very exquisite botique brand from New Zealand .... the Papillionaire vintage style steel bikes hand made in Kiwiland .... One look at the leather saddle (not Brooks but their own) and I just wanted to have one. a www.papillionaire.com.au link/

Found out that they also carry Fuji as well

Maybe we should show our money first before they welcome you?

Snobbish place. Walked in on a weekday afternoon with zero customers and was not served at all, not even acknowledged my presence in the shop as if I'm transparent. After 10mins, Ang Moh walked in to a great welcome!
