Home-Made Handphone Mount
Written by: FoxTwo

Everytime I cycle, somehow my handphone will choose to ring. It doesn't ring when I'm at home. It doesn't ring when I'm slouched in front of the TV. It doesn't ring when I'm in the loo doing my business.
But, it rings everytime I'm on my bike.
So much so that it got so irritating to have to stop the bike, take it outta my pouch just to see who's calling, that I decided to ask around to see if there are any special mounts for handphones for bicycles.

Going to the togoparts forums, it seems that there aren't any, at least not commonly available. Then someone suggested I make my own, and here it is!

That's how it looks like on my handlebar.

That's the clear case I bought for S$4.00
Materials
  • 1 x transparent case with rotating belt clip ($2 to $4 at pasar malams)
  • 1 x expired credit card or similar
  • 1 x old mousepad with rubber foam
  • 2 x cable ties (nylon ties)
Procedure
  • Cut up the credit card to fit the belt clip. This is so that the clip won't slide or slip diagonally during the ride. Here, the credit card is taking the place of your belt
  • Fit the cut-up credit card into the belt clip, and once you have aligned it the way you want, punch 4 holes beside the position of the clip, 2 on each side. These holes are to let the cable ties through.
  • Cut up a piece of the mousepad. You just want the foam bit, so you can tear off any fabric or plastic surfaces.
  • Wrap the rubber foam around the handlebar, fit the credit card + belt clip on the foam and run the cable ties through the holes and around the bar.
  • PULL ON THE CABLE TIES AS TIGHT AS YOU CAN!
  • Viola! Home made handphone mount!
For those of you who can't picture what I'm talking about, take a look at the pics, maybe you can figure it out

That's a closeup of the belt clip.

That's how it looks like from the front of the bike.
